For Indeed, Hire represented a significant opportunity to experiment with new capabilities across the hiring funnel and deliver outstanding outcomes for Job Seekers and Employers.

I contributed to designing and implementing the Indeed Hire Recruit Platform—a proving ground for the latest recruitment automation technologies at scale. I envisioned the design, the overall structure, and foundational design principles. I also directly maintained the candidate management experience.

THE PROBLEM: TIME
Employers and Job Seekers cited the time to hire or be hired as the most critical problem to solve in the hiring process. This leads Employers to make purchasing decisions to increase speed, and Job Seekers to make decisions on which jobs to apply to and which job sites to use based on speed.

WHERE TO START?
Our development process included extensive research and collaboration with the internal recruiting team. Our methods included focus groups, brainstorming sessions, 1:1 interviews, usability testing, performance readouts, shadow interviews, and monthly group coffee chats. We also utilized ongoing Indeed Employer research from our partner teams.

We discovered that using unintegrated tools and migrating data was the most time-consuming task. Recruiters had to recirculate data into client applicant tracking systems that also met compliance standards, all while switching tools between candidate interviews and client meetings. Our goal was to provide a single tool to streamline this process.

SO HOW TO SPEED UP TIME?

Using a jobs-to-be-done approach, we optimized data flow and information exchange. We improved infrastructure integration, eliminated manual input, introduced more intelligent defaults, improved job and candidate matching, and empowered end-users with more control.

NEW SYSTEMS
I designed and produced our advanced, end-to-end prototype in Figma to align our ideas with product and engineering partners while also mindfully extending our Indeed design system.

IMPACT
Indeed Hire Recruit Platform directly result from working closely with our end users and deeply understanding our shared goals. We provided a scalable foundation that increased evaluation to interview conversion by ~33%, job fill rate by ~18%, and sales rep productivity by ~42%.

Using a lightweight version of Heart UX measurement, we found user happiness and engagement at all-time highs. Adoption was complete for the features we’d launched, and retention in the tool was impressive—I expected users to continue using spreadsheets, but they were more eager to get the features they needed added to our tool.
